First time trio of electro-acoustic improvisers. Opening solo set by Chris Corsano
WRAITH is a noise project by cellist and composer Grace Dashnaw. They explore the different worlds the cello can create and exist within by blending together acoustic and electronic sound. Wraith consists of extended cello technique, other various instruments and objects, amplification, effect pedals, and synthesizer.
Started in 2017, FLOSE is the main performance alias of improviser and composer Charles Chatman. Using noise as a bedrock/possibility space, Flose works to extract the complex sonic and affective capacity of nonstandard musical devices and techniques (toy keyboards, prepared lap harp, electric toothbrushes, etc). Flose pieces act as collision points for the sound worlds of noise and non-idiomatic improvisation, postwar concert music, drone, avant-folk, ambient, and extreme metal, highlighting points of resonance and contrast with each other and Chatman’s demure setup. From their intersection and breakdown, an electroacoustic gothic aesthetic emerges, foregrounded in textural curiosity, immersive melancholy, and surprise.
CHRIS CORSANO has been the rim-batterer of choice for some of the greatest contemporary purveyors of "jazz" (Joe McPhee, Zoh Amba) and "rock" (Sir Richard Bishop, Bill Orcutt, Jim O'Rourke), as well as artists beyond categorization (Björk for her Volta album and world tour, Jandek, Okkyung Lee). Appearing on over 150 albums and touring in an ultra-wide array of collaborations, Corsano is also a renowned solo performer in his own right, with a new solo record The Key due out on the Drag City label next year. He's been called a "powerhouse drummer" by Rolling Stone, an "ace of the avant-garde" by The New York Times, "one of the world's great drummers" by The Guardian, and "arguably the most riotously energetic and creative drummer in contemporary free jazz" by Wire Magazine.
